Hurleyville, NY — Audiences are invited to take an unforgettable journey from the streets of Canarsie to the Catskills without ever leaving their seats as the Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre (HPAC) proudly presents the one-night-only performance of Being Somebody: Growing Up in Brooklyn... A Father/Daughter Tale, a touching theatrical production that celebrates family, nostalgia, and the moments that shape our lives.

Performed by real-life father and daughter Dr. Howard Mase and Marla Mase, Being Somebody follows the story of a father and daughter across several decades, spanning the 1940s through the 1990s. Through heartfelt storytelling, music, photographs, and letters discovered in a drawer, the performance explores childhood, coming of age, love, friendship, and the enduring bonds between generations. 

Audiences will recognize pieces of their own lives in the production, from neighborhood streets and Catskills bungalow colonies to family celebrations, reunions, and treasured memories captured in old photographs. The production offers a nostalgic and deeply personal experience that resonates with anyone who has reflected on family history or rediscovered memories tucked away in a photo album or a stack of letters. 

Following the performance, guests are invited to stay for a special Talk Back featuring Howard Mase, Marla Mase, and producer Elizabeth Browning. This interactive discussion gives audience members the opportunity to ask questions, share their own stories, and connect with the artists behind the production.
