In 1947, a group of young actors from New York City found an old barn in Forestburgh. They didn’t just see weathered wood and open fields—they saw a stage. A place where stories could soar, music could rise, and applause could echo long after the curtain fell.
That dream became the Forestburgh Playhouse.
Eighty years later, we invite you to celebrate this remarkable legacy—and help us raise the curtain (and a glass!) on what comes next.
Together with community leaders, artists, our team and friends of the Playhouse, we will mark the opening of their 80th season with a champagne toast and official ribbon cutting.
Over eight decades, the Playhouse has grown into a cornerstone of the Sullivan Catskills:
- 500+ productions
- 200+ cabarets
- 6,000+ artists and technicians employed
- 1 million+ audience members welcomed
More than a theatre, it is a tradition, a home, and a heartbeat in our community.
The evening begins at 5:30 PM with light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, followed by the ribbon cutting and remarks at 6:00 PM. Guests are invited to mix and mingle, with the Tavern bar open following the ceremony.
We would be honored to celebrate this milestone with you.
Eighty years young—and the curtain is just rising.
