Farmers Markets for the Win! National Farmers Market Week Comes to the Sullivan Catskills August 3-9th and Will Be Celebrated at 11 Markets
Liberty, NY – It’s back! National Farmers Market Week will be celebrated across the 11 farmers markets that are part of the Sullivan Catskills Farmers Market collective. The markets in the collective feature local farmers and vendors selling goods produced within or near the Catskills. The theme is “Farmers Markets for the Win!” and the markets are spotlighting 7 ways to win by making the market YOURS to explore!
NOTE: Each market participating in Farmers Market Week also operates on a weekly basis at the same day of the week and time through the autumn season. Many markets will be featuring special events that are free to attend. Check with each market for details.
7 Ways to Win at the Farmers Market – Make it YOURS!
1. Pay YOUR Way Markets take cash, credit/debit, mobile pay & more! Do you receive SNAP/EBT? You can use your benefits at the markets and even DOUBLE their value through the FreshConnect program. There are also special incentives for seniors, veterans, and WIC participants. More details can be found on our website at sullivancce.org under the Sullivan Fresh button
2. Bring YOUR Fam: Everyone is welcome at the market, including kids! Get the entire family inspired to eat healthy.
3. Find YOUR Faves: Discover new flavors and varieties. For example, one farmer has nearly a dozen pepper varieties – others have produce found in other parts of the world.
4. Meet YOUR Farmer: Farmers love to meet you and share prep tips, recipes, and storage recommendations.
5. Improve YOUR Health: Produce is more nutrient dense when it’s harvested within hours of the market! When it’s fresher, it tastes better – so your family is more likely to gobble it up.
6. Find YOUR Vibe: Markets have live music, cooking demonstrations, naturalist talks, yoga and more.
7. Support YOUR Community: Get out and make a positive impact on your community – keep dollars in the Catskills and support farmers!
“Farmers markets are at the heart of our community, and all are welcome to ‘meet at the market.’ During Market Week, our goal is to bring everyone together to experience the many benefits that Sullivan Catskills Farmers Markets have to offer: fun for all ages, community connection, fresh food, friendly farmers, and more,” said Melinda Meddaugh, Agriculture and Food Systems Senior Issue Leader of Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County.
