SUNY Sullivan’s A.A.S. Nursing Program Builds Strong Workforce Pipeline and Offers Path to RN Licensure and Career-Ready Success

Loch Sheldrake, NY – SUNY Sullivan is expanding its Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) Nursing program to offer a range of flexible, career-focused pathways that meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals in New York State. From Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training to Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to Registered Nurse (RN) advancement, the college provides multiple entry points into the healthcare field. Students can choose from a traditional daytime cohort, an evening-only option designed for working adults, or a bridge program tailored for LPNs seeking RN licensure. With hands-on clinical experience and a focus on real-world skills, SUNY Sullivan equips students at all levels for career-ready success in today’s healthcare workforce.

SUNY Sullivan recognizes the need for flexibility and accessibility in nursing education. To support a broad range of learners, the college offers multiple entry points into the program. A traditional daytime cohort begins each fall semester, providing a full-time option for recent high school graduates or those with daytime availability. In response to the growing number of working adults and caregivers pursuing nursing careers, SUNY Sullivan also offers an evening-only cohort, which begins each spring semester. This schedule allows students to balance their education with job and family commitments without compromising the rigor or quality of their training.

The college’s Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program offers hands-on education to prepare students for entry-level roles in healthcare. The program equips participants with essential skills and knowledge to confidently care for patients across various healthcare settings. Students receive instruction in basic nursing care, infection control, safety procedures, and communication techniques, and complete both classroom learning and supervised clinical experiences. Upon completion, students are prepared to support nursing teams and contribute to quality patient care. The program also serves as a strong foundation for those exploring future opportunities in the health sciences.

Additionally, SUNY Sullivan offers an LPN to RN cohort. This pathway provides Licensed Practical Nurses with an opportunity to advance their credentials and enter the registered nursing workforce. Applicants to this program must meet specific qualifications and deadlines.

Students in the Nursing program participate in experiential clinical learning at healthcare facilities located in Sullivan, Orange, Ulster, and Broome counties in New York, as well as in Wayne County, Pennsylvania. In addition to clinical rotations, students complete practical assignments in SUNY Sullivan’s Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Lab, both during and outside of regular class time.

SUNY Sullivan’s nursing graduates are well-positioned to enter the workforce as entry-level staff nurses in hospitals, long-term care facilities, community health organizations, and more. With New York facing a shortage of healthcare professionals, job prospects for SUNY Sullivan graduates are exceptionally strong.

Prospective candidates must adhere to the following deadlines:

·         October 1 for Spring semester admission

·         March 1 for Fall semester admission

·         April 1 for the LPN to RN program
