Kicking off Spring and Summer with Workshops and Events at CCE Sullivan!
LIBERTY, NY – Spring has arrived, and summer will soon be on its heels! To usher in the warmer weather, Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCE Sullivan) is excited to announce the following programs and workshops open to local community members taking place during the upcoming months:
1. Sullivan Fresh Kitchen Takeover at the Cochecton Fire Station
Monday, May 19th, 3:00 PM - 9:00 PM
The Sullivan Fresh staff are taking over the Cochecton Fire Station kitchen! This is no ordinary fundraising event, participants will have the opportunity to experience a one-of-a-kind Sullivan Fresh Menu featuring locally sourced ingredients prepared and served by our team! All proceeds from this event will go to the Sullivan Fresh Food Security Program which continues to serve hundreds of people in the community. No registration is needed to attend, interested participants are welcome to stop in at any time and enjoy a plate with the team!
2. Friday Fitness Series
Fridays, April 25th - May 16th & May 30th - June 20th, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Friday, June 13th, 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM
This non-impact aerobics class series offers participants a full-body cardiovascular workout featuring basic choreography and free dance, set to a variety of music from around the world. Participants will be asked to wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat if they have one, or request one from the instructor if they don’t. Registration for this class series does have a required fee, and interested participants with questions should contact the instructor and CCE Sullivan’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Educator, Joy Leon.
3. Gardening 101: A Three-Part Series
April 29th, June 11th, August 6th, 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Learn the ins and outs of starting your own garden, from start to maintenance! This gardening series will feature a presentation from CCE Sullivan’s Horticulture Subject Educator, Katie Gasior, followed by two separate hands-on workshops where participants will have the opportunity to sow seedlings into CCE Sullivan’s Community Garden and practice maintaining the garden! Registration for this class series does have a required fee, and interested participants with questions should contact the instructor.
4. Eat Healthy, Be Active
Tuesdays, June 3rd – July 8th, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Community members are invited to learn how to experience healthy eating and physical activity as an enjoyable part of their lifestyle that supports them physically, mentally, and emotionally! Instructor for this series and Nutrition and Physical Activity Educator, Joy Leon, will go over planning and preparing nutritious meals for the week, the five food groups on MyPlate, the role macro and micronutrients play in your diet, and more! Registration for this class series is free, and interested participants with questions should contact the instructor.
5. Farmers’ Market Panel
Thursday, May 29, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Farmers are invited to get the knowledge, strategies, and resources they’ll need to successfully enter and thrive in farmers’ markets. A panel of farmers' market vendors and farmers' market managers will each share their experiences, challenges, and best practices related to farmers market sales, pricing strategies, customer engagement, and market policies. Additionally, the panel will be open to questions on how to get started at markets, increasing sales, and navigating challenges in direct-to-consumer sales. Registration for this class series is free, and interested participants with questions should contact Ag. Program Coordinator, Haley Collins.
6. Cooking Matters in Your Community

Friday, August 8th, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM – Liberty Farmers’ Market
Learn a variety of skills from food safety to how to get produce from the Farmers' Market ready for your dinner table! Each class in this program series will focus on a specific healthy eating theme or cooking technique and include a recipe to demonstrate the concept. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about local, in-season produce and sample food prepared in class together.
