$500 thousand in Scholarships Available for the Class of 2024 through

Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan

Students are encouraged to apply for available scholarships by the April 15 deadline

MONTGOMERY, NY (March 8, 2023) – A total of 140 scholarships worth nearly $500 thousand will be awarded from funds at the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan (CFOS) this spring. High school seniors and adults returning to college are encouraged to apply for these scholarships. Applications for scholarships can be submitted at cfosny.org until April 15.

Upon completion of a single application, applicants will receive notifications indicating the specific scholarships they qualify for, along with any additional application requirements. This streamlined process simplifies the search for suitable scholarship opportunities, ensuring students can access the support that aligns best with their circumstances and capabilities.

“Thanks to the unwavering support of our amazing donors, the Foundation continues to provide a diverse array of scholarships each year, profoundly impacting the lives of local students and their families,” said Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan President and CEO Elizabeth Rowley. “As the expenses associated with higher education continue to rise, we are honored to stand behind deserving students, empowering them to pursue their aspirations for higher education, vocational training, and enrichment.”

Among the scholarships being distributed through the Community Foundation this year is the Madison St. John Olivero Memorial Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship. SUNY and CUNY college students who reside in the Hudson Valley, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, have made demonstrable contributions to their school or community, and show financial need are eligible to apply. A 350-word essay, college transcript, and letter of recommendation are also required. The deadline for applications is March 29. Up to a $7,000 scholarship will be awarded.

“Madison frequently spoke of his transformative experience studying abroad in Barcelona,” said Madison’s brother and fund representative Camden Olivero. “This enriching chapter allowed him to flourish both academically and personally. During his time abroad, he explored diverse cultures, savored exquisite cuisines, and forged profound connections with individuals from around the globe.”

“It is our honor to memorialize Madison by providing this scholarship so others can have similar experiences,” added fund representative John O’Donnell. “We look forward to reading applications and supporting students on their study abroad journey!”
