Forestburgh, NY – The Forestburgh Playhouse is excited to announce that the 5th Annual In the Works-In the Woods Festival will now be welcoming submissions of new plays and musicals. The festival will take place September 5th-7th, 2025 on the Playhouse campus.
“Our very own, home-grown theatre festival is turning 5 in ‘25 - and the word is out! Each year the In The Works~In The Woods Festival grows in reputation, recognition and scope” says Festival Artistic Director, Matt Lenz “...and as it does, opening the door to the new wave of submissions gets more and more thrilling every year. We can’t wait to see what innovative and entertaining new plays and musicals come to us for our 5th anniversary.”
The In the Works-In the Woods Festival was created and founded in 2021 with the goal of nurturing, developing and celebrating new theatrical works - and the diverse writers and artists who bring them to life. Every September, dozens of creators from around the country gather on the enchanting Forestburgh Playhouse campus to rehearse, rewrite, commune, workshop and share their gifts with our Sullivan Catskills community. During the course of the Festival, staged readings of new plays, new musicals, and new cabaret acts are presented. The Festival also features “Off the Cuff” conversations with world-renown theatremakers, open-mic nights, tasting by local food and beverage artisans and many other surprises.
The submission guidelines are simple: (a) there must be a complete draft of a new musical or play for submission and review; (b) the piece has not yet had a full production; (c) the writers will be present on campus for the full span of Festival dates (Aug. 31-Sept. 7); and (d) the cast size should be 16 or smaller. Writers should go towww.fbplayhouse.org/itw for complete submission guidelines and utilize the submission form available on the website. The deadline for submissions is February 19, 2025.
