LIBERTY, NY – Research estimates that 80% of Veterans will have some need for long-term services and supports in their lifetime. Often this support falls to the Veterans’ families and close friends, whether or not they are prepared to offer it. Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County and Action Toward Independence are partnering to offer a support group for Veterans, families of Veterans, and interested caregivers on the first Wednesday of the month from February through December, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
Support group sessions will take place at the Action Toward Independence office in Monticello located at 309 E. Broadway. This group will offer a place for interested participants to connect with others and learn about resources available through the Caregiver Resource Center, the Joseph P. Dwyer Vet 2 Vet Program, and the Alzheimer's Association. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their concerns and tips on managing stress, be provided with community resources, and look forward to future speakers brought in to discuss related caregiver topics.
Interested participants are encouraged to register before their first time attending. The support group registration can be accessed at CCE’s website at https://sullivancce.org/events. Participants can also register by contacting Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County’s Caregiver Resource Center at (845) 292-6180 ext. 122 or by email at sullivancrc@cornell.edu. Further questions about the support group and the program can be accessed via the contact information above.
This program is supported by a grant from the NYS Department of Health, OFA, CCE/Caregiver Resource Center Program and the Alzheimer's Association.
