Opening Reception - Torey Akers & Group Show
Torey Akers’ exhibition, Baubo, explores the human form in intricate and intimate oil paintings and ink drawings, exploring depth and form with sculptural, collaged elements made from dressmaker's pins. Akers' work takes on the mantle of the Renaissance-era erotic nude - simultaneously coy and brazen, exploited and self-referential - by transforming awkwardness into intimacy through touch. Join us for Coffee & Conversation with Torey Akers at 3pm on February 8th - before the opening reception. Including visual artists, writers, musicians, performers, and others, and curated by DVAA Gallery & Grants Manager Tanner Simon, Assembly Required, offers a glimpse of what is possible when we embrace dialogue and exchange and break out of our silos and blur our boundaries in the spirit of collaboration, understanding, and a greater whole.
