Doo-Wop Concert at the County Museum

When Mickey Barnett (a longtime Catskills resort performer and Rock-a Billy Hall of Fame member) suggested Sullivan County bring a doo-wop band to the Museum’s First Sunday Music and History program, organizers wondered, “What does doo-wop have to do with Sullivan County history?”   Well, according to Barnett, there were doo-wop bands playing all over the County back in the resort heydays. Who knew!   That timeless music returns this November 3 at 2 p.m. at the Museum, thanks to Cherished Memories, a group of guys and one gal keeping doo-wop music alive. With tight vocal harmonies, their nostalgic a cappella renditions of songs like “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” and “Blue Moon” take listeners on a journey back to the sounds of street-corner harmony.   Members Charlie, Joe, Jeff, Nancy and John perform throughout the metropolitan area at a variety of nightclubs, restaurants, oldies shows and every type of private, public and corporate function.
