BARN RESTORED FOR THE CHILDREN OF ST. JOHN BOSCO CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES IN THE VILLAGE OF WALDEN, NY

Walden, NY (September 15, 2021)They say it takes a village to raise child and, in this case, it took a village to raise a barn and restore it into a therapeutic, recreational space for the children served by St. John Bosco Child & Family Services, (SJBSC) in Walden, NY.

Initial funding of $50,000 was contributed by Carve for a Cause founded by Marianne Murray. Since 2007, Carve for a Cause has raised more than $750,000 for critical unmet needs for families and children living in Ulster County and beyond.

“What was to be a simple renovation turned nearly impossible if not for the generosity and skill set of Brian Rivenburgh and Hank Andryshak who served as the project General Managers. They enlisted the help of so many other professional tradesmen who also generously provided over $60,000 of materials and in-kind services. It truly was a village of people who came together to turn this barn into a beautiful space for the kids,” says Marianne Murray, Carve for a Cause Founder.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to Carve for a Cause, Brian and Hank and so many others, for seeing this project to the end. Our kids will benefit enormously from having a space that offers privacy, healthy recreation, socialization choices, one-on-one tutoring options and mentoring,” said Jeff Murphy, CEO of SJBSC.

St. John Bosco Child & Family Services has licensed boarding homes for boys and girls in the villages of Walden, Wallkill and New Paltz, NY. Their mission is to offer exceptional care and treatment to children currently in foster care with the underlying belief that every child can be helped. They strive to restore the vitality and joy of childhood in children who have not been afforded this basic right.

“The Barn,” as it is now affectionately known, was originally gifted to SJBSC by Walden Savings Bank and now stands strong at 20 Ulster Avenue in the village of Walden, NY.
Please join us at the official ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, October 14 at 4 pm. Donations can be made directly to SJBSC at www.stjohnboscocfs.org
