Celebrate Opening Day of the Sullivan Fresh Teaching Garden at CCE!

LIBERTY, NY — Spending time in a garden boosts physical and mental wellness. In addition, every $1 invested in a community garden yields around $6 worth of produce! To educate community members on the process and benefits of gardening, Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County’s (CCESC) Horticulture Program Coordinator Katie Gasior will host an opening day celebration of the newly constructed Sullivan Fresh Teaching Garden at the Extension Education Center, located at 64 Ferndale-Loomis Road on Thursday, June 8th from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

At this gathering, Katie will teach hands on gardening techniques in the new raised garden beds at the Extension Education Center. Participants will learn to direct sow seeds, transplant seedlings into the raised bed, place stakes and trellises, and learn strategies for a high-yielding produce garden. Through these activities, participants will have a hand in planting produce that will be distributed by the Sullivan Fresh Community Cupboard mobile food pantry to Sullivan County residents experiencing food insecurity.

There is no fee, but preregistration is required to participate. Interested participants can register online at Those with related questions can email or call 845-292-6180.
