A Single Bite Reaches One-Year Milestone and Continues to Feed Children and Families

Youngsville, NY - A Single Bite is marking an important milestone.  Last March 24, the nonprofit, founded by Foster Supply Hospitality, responded to the immediate issue of food insecurity by preparing its first Family Meal. Since then, they’ve delivered food to hundreds of households across Sullivan County.

Collaborating with school administrators, community organizations, and dedicated volunteers, A Single Bite has been reaching deep into Sullivan County, New York to deliver more than 67,000 healthy, prepared meals to low-income families; those adversely affected by the COVID-19 crisis; and, still more who simply can’t reliably access healthy food.

“Twenty-four percent of our children are living in poverty.  And more than fifteen percent of residents experience food insecurity, a crisis that existed well before the pandemic and continues to impact our community,” said Sims Foster, Co-Founder, Foster Supply Hospitality and A Single Bite.

The recent economic downturn has led to devastating consequences for too many of our neighbors, leaving them unable to make ends meet. The number of households that are either unable to access enough food or unsure where their next meal might come from has been steadily increasing.  Since before the pandemic, the number of children eligible for free or reduced school lunch has increased by fourteen percent — that’s 800 more kids who are not getting enough to eat.  A Single Bite is responding to the ongoing needs of the community by gradually increasing their capacity to feed even more people.

“We are committed to assisting people experiencing food insecurity, those most critically impacted by poverty, lack of employment opportunities and other barriers all too familiar to families who are struggling to put food on the table. No child should go to bed hungry, ” said A Single Bite and Foster Supply Hospitality Co-Founder, Kirsten Harlow Foster.  “It is clear that our Family Meal Program is critical and will be expanded in 2021 and beyond.”

Generous donors are an integral part of the effort.  A contribution of $100 provides 20 children with what is sometimes their only complete meal of the day. Monthly donations assure that families will continue to receive healthy food for as long as they need assistance. Donations are accepted at asinglebite.org or by mail to A Single Bite, PO Box 595, Youngsville, NY 12791. And, they are not only feeding people, but continue to educate them about real food and where it comes from. Call 845-482-1030 if you need help or want to help. If you’re unable to contribute, please help spread the word: A Single Bite is on Instagram @asinglebiteorg and Facebook @asinglebite
