KIWANIS CLUBS HONOR VETERANS
KIWANIS CLUBS HONOR VETERANS
The Monticello and Woodridge Kiwanis Clubs got together once more for a joint venture to honor local veterans by presenting the Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency with little gifts and greeting cards made by the Kiwanis members as well as hand-made ones made by the Kiwanis service leadership clubs, consisting of the Fallsburg Elementary K-Kids and the Aktion Club of Sullivan County, which is sponsored by Monticello and Woodridge Kiwanis and comprised of members with disabilities from the Arc of Greater Hudson Valley, the Center for Discovery and New Hope Community. Woodridge Kiwanian Jill Weiner’s Liberty Middle School Students also donated their artistic talents to this project.
The gifts and cards will be distributed to local veterans, including homeless individuals served by the Veterans Agency, and patients at the local nursing homes and hospitals as well as Castle Point and Albany Veterans Hospital. The items consist of personal toiletry, body lotion, razors, socks, underwear, t-shirts, crossword and find the word puzzles, playing cards, mugs, hats, gloves, candy, hot chocolate packets, etc. Veterans Service Officer Joseph Putnam stated that he knows that the veterans who receive the beautifully crafted cards and gifts will smile knowing the Sullivan County residents – young and old- have not forgotten them on their special day.
