98.3 WSUL HEART-A-THON 2024 ANNOUNCEMENT

The 98.3 WSUL Heart-A-Thon will celebrate its 46th year on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 6A-6P at Resorts World Catskills Epicenter and broadcast live on 98.3 WSUL.  This event has raised over $3 Million dollars to date locally for heart disease.  This event is supported by long time sponsor Sullivan Catskills Visitor’s Association, and a committee of dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to raise funds every year.  The 98.3 WSUL Heart-A-Thon proceeds go into the Bold Gold Fund managed by the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan Counties, and from there distributed.  For the 2nd year the event will focus on three areas: Prevention, Education, and Treatment of Heart Disease in Sullivan County benefiting the following programs: Prevention:

o   Sullivan 180 Empowering a Healthier Generation and Healthiest Fire Department Challenge Turtle awards; grants for schools and fire departments who are actively making changes that improve the health of our youth and first responders.

Education

o   A Single Bite’s four-part Real Food Education Program; teaches Sullivan County students to care about the food they eat and where it comes from, challenging them to make healthy choices whenever possible.

o   Steam Fund’s Full Steam Ahead with Healthy Habits initiative designed to make a generational improvement in health using music, songwriting, mindfulness, and movement providing children with tools to make healthier choices.

Treatment:

o   Garnet Health Medical Center Catskills will receive funding to purchase state of the art Echocardiogram Equipment.

“We are proud to continue the tradition of this amazing community effort and are excited about how things have evolved from solely focusing on treatment of heart disease, to moving toward funding programs that help our local youth learn healthy habits in school.  This type of approach can create healthier lifestyles, and in the long run can make a positive impact on the health rankings of our County.”  Dawn Ciorciari, General Manager, Bold Gold Media.
