222 Main Street Hurleyville, NY

Parking available in the Municipal Parking lot at the traffic light.

The Hamlet of Hurleyville has become a welcoming arts refuge focused on inclusivity and anchored by The Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre. HPAC sits on main street just adjacent to the one newly installed traffic light in town that allows pedestrians to safely cross between the Arts Centre and satellite space Gallery 222 as well as the miles of walking paths either side of Main Street.

The HPAC building boasts five 5 foot backlit frames high above main street. “We initially used these poster boxes to advertise what we offer at HPAC; fine art movies, performances and movement classes but it’s clear what we need now during divisions caused by the pandemic and politics is public art. This is another way we have found to share art with the community and by the community… to stay connected. It’s kind of a giant love note” says Erin Dudley HPAC’s Executive Director.

Gallery 222 coordinator and project lead Ellyane Hutchinson was ‘ pleasantly surprised by the number of applicants and all of the wonderful images and stories from our community artists. With so much talent around us we plan for this contest to become an annual opportunity to share the work of local artists in a prominent way.”

Rohan Patrick’s images could not come at a better time. Aside from the obvious appeal of hugs " In Need of A…? ” series reflects HPAC's mission of building a culture of inclusion and social awareness. “ I am honored to be a part of the project. We are not limited to a small gallery space. This project is in a small town but has huge implications. I had no idea how therapeutic hugs are until after I did the first drawing and started researching hugs. We usually help people we care about and this good feeling needs to come into being - I think we are at a point where if we don’t hold onto some things we are going to lose a lot.” – Rohan Patrick
