What is a Direct Support Professional?  Great question! 
A Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for a variety of duties related to the overall care of individuals with developmental disabilities that are under the care of New Hope Community. 
 
Ok, so what will I actually be doing every day?
A DSP works in the home(s) of individuals that require care and services.  What does that mean?  That means that on a day-to-day basis you may be assisting individuals in getting dressed, personal hygiene, cooking meals, driving to and from appointments, administering medications, going on social and community based outings.  Sounds like a great day!
 
What skills do I need to be a DSP?
A DSP needs to have a positive attitude, work well with others, exercise patience, and treat others with kindness and respect.
 
What certifications do I need to be a DSP?
A DSP must have a high school diploma or GED, a clean/valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to lift/push/pull 50lbs.
