What is a Behavior Specialist ? Great question!
A Behavior Specialist works with a team of clinical professionals to develop behavior plans for individuals with intellectual and/or other developmental disabilities. In addition, a Behavior Specialist works with the residential team providing training and supports to ensure continuity of care for the people who live at New Hope Community.
Ok, so what will I actually be doing every day?
As a Behavior Specialist you will be working with a variety of departments (clinical, residential and nursing) to develop, implement and evaluate behavior plans for the people that are supported at New Hope Community. This means that you will be applying your expertise to make a difference in people’s lives. You will have the responsibility to advocate for the individuals and assist them in achieving their best lives possible. Days can be challenging and busy but also be filled with laughter, learning, and special moments!
What characteristics are you looking for in your Behavior Specialist ?
A Behavior Specialist needs to have a positive attitude and a proven track record of excellence to step into this integral role. A Behavior Specialist must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as the position will juggle the needs of the staff and people we support simultaneously. The Behavior Specialist is a key component in the overall core residential team, so Behavior Specialist have to be able to work well with other staff and departments.
What certifications or skills do I need to be a Behavior Specialist ?
A Behavior Specialist must have a Master’s degree in the fields of psychology or social work. Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual or other disabilities is preferred. Supervisory or leadership experience is preferred, but not required as we provide excellent, ongoing staff training and development experiences for all our staff to ensure you have the knowledge and skillset necessary to do your job well!
